At A Glance – Breast reshaping
Breast reshaping surgery
Breast reduction/ mammaplasty
A breast reduction reduces the size and volume of breasts as appropriate to your footprint (small isn’t always possible). A lift is always achieved at the same time.
Breast lift/ mastopexy
A breast lift is almost the reverse of a breast reduction in that more skin is removed proportionally than in a reduction. I often use the lower part of the breast as an “auto-augmentation” if preserving fullness is hoped for.
Breast augmentation
Increasingly women (I include me) prefer to have/ keep/ reuse their own tissue and fat has changed the possibilities of gentle contouring massively.
Fat transfer to breasts
Fat can be taken from your body using gentle liposuction and it is washed and injected for a subtle volume increase and shadowing, either to symmetrise breasts or to enhance a breast once implants have been removed.
Breast implants (silicone)
Where reshaping with your own tissue or fat is not possible I will often use implants.
I no longer use textured implants in my practice due to ongoing issues with ALCL, a lymphoma now thought to be associated with texturing of implants.
I use Mentor implants with an underwire incision.
Breast asymmetry correction
Tuberous breasts/ Poland Syndrome/ breast asymmetry is quite a common condition with varying degrees or asymmetry from fold asymmetry to vast volume differences. As above many techniques including lifts and fat can be used in these cases with lovely results.
Very occasionally an implant may be required for sufficient volume on one side.
Many techniques are used for breast surgery in my practice.
All breast surgery is performed as daycase surgery, drain free.
If you are over 40 a mammogram will be performed pre-operatively and all breast specimens are sent for histological analysis.
"Be the Change"
A woman's breasts help define her femininity, and with the vast differences in shape, size, and appearance, breasts further help to define her individualism. As a woman and a mum, I understand the importance of this part of a womans' physique, from their physical appearance and importance sexually, to their function as a mum with their amazing breastfeeding ability, and then to their slightly altered appearance after having babies and and back again!
You can be assured of my understanding from both a female and a surgical perspective.
Whether you are thinking about a breast augmentation, a breast lift with or without implants, a breast reduction, breast reshaping, symmetrising or matching to one breast, or revisional surgery including removing and replacing implants or capsules;
